220世纪前管理的主要贡献者;科学管理及其重要贡献;一般行政管理理论及其重要贡献;定量方法及其贡献。

3.理解组织行为;描述早期先驱的贡献;霍桑实验及其贡献。

4.讨论当前趋势和问题。

 

第三章  组织文化与环境:约束力量

 

本章目的是讨论组织文化与环境的组成和复杂性,以及它们是如何影响管理者的。

1.区分管理万能论和象征论。

2.定义组织文化;构成组织文化的七个维度;区分强文化和弱文化。

Chapter One Introduction to Management and Organization

 

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the concepts of organization, management and managers so that students can understand the basic categories of management principles and study methods. Students are required to

1. Explain the basic concepts of managers and management; differentiate efficiency and effectiveness.

2. Describe the functions and process of management, the roles and skills of management;

3. Define organization and illustrate the relationship between management and organization.

4. Indicate the significance of studying management.

 

Chapter Two History and Current Development of Management

 

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the history of management as an academic discipline so that students can better understand the theories and practice of management. As for the management majors, it is essential to understand the management philosophy and the evolution of managing practice. Students are required to

1. Discuss the relations between management and other fields of research; explain the historical background of management.

2. The main contributors for the management before the 20th century. How to conduct management scientifically and the main contributions; the general administration theories and the key contributions; Quantitative methods and their corresponding contributions.

3. Understand organizational behaviors; describe the contributions of pioneers in the research of organizational behaviors; Hawthorne experiment and its contributions.

4. Discuss the current tendencies and issues involved.

 

Chapter Three Organizational Culture and Environment: Conditioning

 

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the complexity of organizational culture and composites of environment and how they influence the managers. Students are required to

1. Discriminate the omnipotent view and symbolic view of management.

2. Define organizational culture: the seven dimensions involved in the construction of organizational culture; differentiate the strong and weak culture.

3. Define the external environment; describe the concrete and general environment; evaluate the uncertainty of environment and the relationship management of the interested parties.

 

Chapter Four Management in the Global Environment

 

This chapter mainly focuses on the analysis of the global environment and how to conduct management in the global management. Students are required to

1. Understand the importance of view management from the global perspective; three diverse attitudes toward global operation.

2. Describe the various regional trade policies and explain the reason why countries enter the regional trade union.

3. Compare the multi-national organizations, trans-national organizations and organization without borders; describe the developmental stages of internationalization for organizations.

4. Illustrate the national culture and identify the management in the global environment and the corresponding challenges.

 

Chapter Five Social Responsibility and Management Ethics

 

The framework of understanding social responsibility and management ethics is established in this chapter. Students are required to

1. Illustrate the classical point of view and the social economy perspective of social responsibility. The opinions for and against social responsibility are also displayed.

2. Discriminate social obligations, social response and social responsibility; explain the relationship between social responsibility and economic performance.

3. Describe the value-oriented and greening management.

4. Differentiate four kinds of morality; discuss the elements that influences the ethical behaviors of managers and various means of enhance the staff’s behaviors.

 

Chapter Six Decision Making: Nature of Management

 

This chapter focuses on the decision making process and the relevant issues involved in decision making. Students are required to

1.  Define decision making; generalize the decision making process and explain the    universalism of decision making.

2.  Describe the reasonable decision makers; compare the decision making methods of rational and bounded rational decision making process.

3.  Analyze the conditions of decision making; differentiate the conditions of certainty, risk and uncertainty in decision making.

4.  Describe different decision making styles.

 

Chapter Seven Foundation of Planning

 

This chapter is based on the description of planning. Students are required to

1. Define planning; analyze the reasons why managers shall make the planning.

2. Illustrate the roles of goals in planning and differentiate the types of planning; introduce the methods and procedures of identifying goals; and describe the characteristics of preferable goals.

3. Contingency factors of planning.

4. Criticism of planning; making plans effectively in a dynamic environment.

 

Chapter Eight Strategic Management

 

The purpose of this chapter is to explore the process of strategic management in a further style, which constitutes an important part of planning function. Students are required to

1. Illustrate the importance of strategic management; describe the process of strategic management; explain the SWOT analysis (i.e. strength, weakness, opportunity and threats) .

2. Differentiate the strategies of corporation level, business level and functional level.

3. Explain the competitive advantage; describe Michael Porter's Five Forces Model and identify the competitiveness strategy.

 

Chapter Nine Tools and Technologies for Planning

 

This chapter is mainly to introduce the tools and technologies used by the mangers in planning. Students are required to

1. Technologies of evaluating environment: scanning of environment, prediction and benchmark comparison.

2. Technologies in resources allocation: budget, scheduling (Gantt graph, load chart; PERT network analysis; Break-even analysis, linear programming.

3. Modern planning technologies; project management; scenario planning.

 

Chapter Ten Organizational Structure and Design

 

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce organizational structure and design methods. Students are required to

1. Define the organizational structure and design; explain the significance of structure and design for organization.

2. Describe the six key elements of organizational structure: specialization of tasks, departmentalization; chain of command; management rate; centralization and decentralization; regularization.

3. Differentiate the design of mechanic and organic organization; identify the contingency factors influencing the organization design.

4. Describe the common forms of organizational structure; simple structure; functional structure and business department structure.

5. Understand the modern organization design; structure of team; project and matrix structure; internal self-governing unit; boundless organization and learning organization.
